1999 - Present

UK membership of the G20

The Group of Twenty (G20) is an international forum comprising 19 of the world's largest economies and the European Union, representing both developed and emerging nations. Established in 1999 in response to the financial crises of the late 1990s, the G20 was initially a meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors but was elevated to a Leaders' level meeting in 2008 in the wake of the global financial crisis. As a primary platform for global economic cooperation, the G20 discusses a broad range of international issues, including economic policy, financial market regulation, sustainable development, climate change, and efforts to reduce poverty, aiming to promote global financial stability and sustainable growth.
