Spanish Flu

The Spanish Flu, a deadly strain of the H1N1 influenza A virus, struck Scotland in 1918 and persisted into 1919. As part of a global pandemic that infected approximately one-third of the world's population, Scotland experienced significant morbidity and mortality. The pandemic, which came in multiple waves, strained the country's medical facilities and led to widespread social disruption. Compounded by the aftermath of World War I, Scotland faced both the physical toll of the flu and the associated socioeconomic challenges, with thousands succumbing to the disease.
