Kingdom of Strathclyde

The Kingdom of Strathclyde, also known as Alt Clut or Ystrad Clud, was a Brittonic kingdom that emerged in the early medieval period in what is now western Scotland and the northern part of England's Lake District. Centered around Dumbarton Rock, it thrived from approximately the 5th to the 11th century, serving as a significant political entity during a time when the British Isles were fragmented into various small kingdoms. Over the centuries, Strathclyde faced invasions from Vikings, Northumbrians, and Scots, eventually becoming incorporated into the Kingdom of Scotland in the 11th century.
