House of Alpin
Starting with Kenneth MacAlpin (Cináed mac Ailpin), the House of Alpin is a modern concept to group the early Kings of the Scots. The rule alternated between two main branches of Kenneth’s descendants.
Malcolm II, the last king from this house, was able to pass the crown to his daughter’s son, Duncan I, inaugurating the House of Dunkeld.
