Clan MacDonald-Clan Maclean feud

Between 1480 and 1598, the feud between Clan MacDonald and Clan Maclean epitomized the fierce rivalries that defined the Scottish Highlands' turbulent landscape. Central to their animosity were territorial disputes over the Rhinns of Islay and other key areas. The conflict was punctuated by various violent confrontations, most notably the Battle of the Spoiling Dyke in 1578. Over the years, their rivalry was exacerbated by betrayals, shifting alliances, and broader political machinations within Scotland, including the influence of the Scottish Crown. By the late 16th century, after nearly 120 years of strife, the feud began to wane, culminating in 1598 with the Battle of Gruinart, after which relative peace was brokered.
