Alexander I

Alexander I, known as Alaxandair mac Maíl Choluim, ruled as King of Scotland from 1107 to 1124. Succeeding his brother Edgar, Alexander's reign was marked by efforts to strengthen royal authority and extend centralized control over the more remote areas of the kingdom, especially in the Highlands. His rule faced opposition from church leaders due to his attempts to exert influence over ecclesiastical appointments, leading to tensions with the clergy. Known for his strong religious devotion, he was nonetheless a forceful monarch, and his reign laid the groundwork for the continued consolidation of the Scottish kingdom. Despite internal challenges, Alexander I managed to maintain relative peace and stability throughout Scotland during his tenure.
