Abdication of Edward VIII

Edward VIII abdicated the throne on December 11, 1936. His abdication was driven by his desire to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee, which was against the constitutional norms of the time. After the abdication, he was bestowed the title of Duke of Windsor.
