Treaty of Corbeil

The Treaty of Corbeil in 1326 was a significant diplomatic agreement between Charles IV of France and Robert I (Robert the Bruce) of Scotland. Through this treaty, France formally recognized Robert the Bruce as the legitimate king of Scotland, bolstering his standing against English assertions of dominance. In return, Scotland reaffirmed its commitment to the Auld Alliance, a longstanding mutual defense pact with France aimed at countering English expansion. This recognition by France not only provided international validation to Robert's kingship but also further strengthened the Franco-Scottish bond against their mutual English adversary.
