Knap of Howar

The Knap of Howar, located on the island of Papa Westray in Orkney, Scotland, is one of the oldest preserved houses in Northern Europe. Radiocarbon dating suggests it was occupied from 3700 BC to 2800 BC, predating the renowned settlement of Skara Brae on the Orkney Mainland. Comprising two adjacent stone-built structures, this ancient farmstead offers significant insights into the domestic life and architectural practices of its Neolithic inhabitants.
