Edgar

Edgar, known as Étgar mac Maíl Choluim, reigned as King of Scotland from 1097 to 1107. Succeeding his uncle Donald III, Edgar ascended to the throne with the support of King William II of England, aiming to consolidate power and stabilize the Scottish monarchy after years of dynastic strife. His reign, though relatively peaceful, was marked by his efforts to reduce internal conflict and maintain amicable relations with the Normans in England. Edgar's rule saw the return of lands in Cumbria to the English crown, solidifying an alliance and minimizing border tensions. As a pivotal figure in early Scottish-Norman relations, Edgar's reign paved the way for closer ties between the two kingdoms, ensuring a more harmonious era in the subsequent years.
