Battle of Sheriffmuir
The Battle of Sheriffmuir, fought on 13 November 1715, was an indecisive engagement during the Jacobite Rising of 1715, which aimed to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British throne. Located near Dunblane in Scotland, the battle saw Jacobite forces led by John Erskine, the Earl of Mar, face off against government troops commanded by the Duke of Argyll. While both sides claimed elements of victory, with the Jacobites pushing back the left flank of the government army and the Duke of Argyll doing the same to the Jacobites' right, neither achieved a decisive win. The inconclusive nature of the battle, combined with other setbacks, ultimately undermined the 1715 Jacobite uprising, which soon fizzled out.
