Battle of Sauchieburn

The Battle of Sauchieburn, fought on 11 June 1488, was a pivotal conflict in Scottish history, pitting King James III against rebellious Scottish nobles supporting his son, the future James IV. Located near Stirling, the confrontation was initiated by disgruntled nobility discontented with James III's governance. During the battle, the king's forces were defeated, and James III himself met a tragic end, either killed during the retreat or assassinated shortly thereafter. His son, although reportedly remorseful about the rebellion's outcome, was crowned James IV, marking a transition in the Scottish monarchy amidst internal strife.
