Battle of Rullion Green
The Battle of Rullion Green, fought on 28 November 1666, was the climax of the Pentland Rising, a Covenanter rebellion in Scotland against the religious and political policies imposed by Charles II. Taking place on Rullion Green in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh, the Covenanter rebels, led by Colonel James Wallace, were confronted by a larger government force commanded by Sir Thomas Dalziel. The Covenanters, despite their fervor, were ill-equipped and outnumbered, resulting in their decisive defeat. The aftermath saw brutal suppression by government forces, with many captured rebels executed or punished, further deepening the religious and political divides in Scotland during this tumultuous period.
