Battle of Newburn

The Battle of Newburn, fought on August 28, 1640, was a significant confrontation during the Second Bishops' War between the Scottish Covenanters and the English forces led by King Charles I. Taking place near Newburn, Tyne and Wear, the Scottish army, under the command of Alexander Leslie, decisively defeated the English, securing control of Newcastle upon Tyne.
