Battle of Linlithgow Bridge

The Battle of Linlithgow Bridge took place on 4 September 1526 near Linlithgow in Scotland. The conflict arose from tensions between factions supporting the young James V of Scotland and those opposed to the influence of his mother, Margaret Tudor, and her chosen advisors. The forces of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran, who sided with the king's mother, confronted and defeated the troops led by Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus, the king's stepfather. The battle cemented the Hamiltons' influence over the young monarch and played a pivotal role in the ongoing power struggles during James V's minority reign.
