Battle of Kilsyth
The Battle of Kilsyth, fought on 15 August 1645 during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, was a significant clash in Scotland between the Royalist forces under James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose, and the Covenanter forces led by Major-General William Baillie. Taking place near Kilsyth in North Lanarkshire, the battle saw the Royalists, emboldened by a series of previous victories, decisively defeat the Covenanters. This triumph gave Montrose temporary control over most of Scotland and was the zenith of his campaign to restore King Charles I's authority against the Covenanter-dominated government. However, the subsequent shifting political and military landscape would soon challenge this Royalist dominance.
