Battle of Killiecrankie

The Battle of Killiecrankie, fought on 27 July 1689, was a pivotal conflict during the Jacobite Risings, a series of campaigns aimed at restoring the Stuart monarchs to the British throne. Taking place near Pitlochry in Scotland, the battle saw Jacobite forces loyal to King James VII of Scotland and led by John Graham of Claverhouse, Viscount Dundee, face off against government troops supporting the newly crowned William of Orange. Despite being outnumbered, the Jacobites, using the fierce Highland charge, secured a decisive victory. However, the triumph came at a significant cost, as Claverhouse, a key Jacobite leader, was fatally wounded, diminishing the momentum of the Jacobite cause in its early stages.
