Battle of Inverkeithing

The Battle of Inverkeithing, fought on 20 July 1651, was a crucial conflict during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, set against the backdrop of Oliver Cromwell's invasion of Scotland. English Parliamentarian forces under Major-General John Lambert clashed with the Scottish Royalist army loyal to Charles II near Inverkeithing in Fife. Despite the Scots' initial defense of a strategic bridge, they were eventually overwhelmed by Lambert's troops. The defeat resulted in heavy Scottish casualties, and it opened the path for Cromwell's forces to march on Perth, further consolidating their control over Scotland and advancing their campaign to subdue the Royalist resistance.
