Battle of Glen Shiel

The Battle of Glen Shiel, fought on 10 June 1719, was a significant conflict during the Jacobite Risings. Set in the Scottish Highlands at Glen Shiel, the battle featured an alliance of Jacobite supporters and Spanish soldiers against British government forces. The Jacobite and Spanish coalition, aiming to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British throne, faced off against a government army led by General Joseph Wightman. Despite a spirited resistance, the combined Jacobite-Spanish forces were eventually defeated and driven from the field. This defeat marked the end of the 1719 Jacobite uprising and curtailed Spanish involvement in the Jacobite cause.
