Battle of Flodden
The Battle of Flodden, fought on 9 September 1513 near Branxton in Northumberland, England, was one of the largest battles between England and Scotland. King James IV of Scotland, in support of his ally France, invaded England with a formidable army. However, they were met by English forces led by the Earl of Surrey. In the ensuing battle, the Scottish forces suffered a devastating defeat, with many of their nobles and King James IV himself being killed, making him the last monarch from the British Isles to die in battle. Flodden marked a significant setback for Scotland and left a profound impact on its national consciousness.
