Battle of Falkirk

The Battle of Falkirk, fought on 17 January 1746, was one of the major engagements during the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Taking place near the town of Falkirk in Scotland, the battle saw Jacobite forces under Charles Edward Stuart, or "Bonnie Prince Charlie," confront a British government army led by Lieutenant General Henry Hawley. In difficult weather conditions and amidst chaotic combat, the Jacobites managed to achieve a victory, pushing back the government forces. Despite this success, the win was not fully capitalized upon, and organizational issues hampered the Jacobites. The campaign would culminate a few months later in their devastating defeat at the Battle of Culloden.
