Battle of Dunkeld

The Battle of Dunkeld, fought on 21 August 1689, was a significant engagement during the Jacobite Risings. Occurring in and around the town of Dunkeld, Scotland, the conflict pitted the Jacobite forces, who had recently achieved victory at Killiecrankie, against a regiment of government soldiers, the Cameronian Covenanters. Despite the momentum from their previous success, and having superior numbers, the Jacobites found themselves repelled by the resolute defense of the Cameronians, who were stationed within the fortified Dunkeld Cathedral. The intense fighting resulted in the Jacobites retreating, making the Battle of Dunkeld a crucial setback for the Jacobite cause, especially so soon after their victory at Killiecrankie.
