Battle of Dunbar

The Battle of Dunbar, on September 3, 1650, was a decisive confrontation between Scottish and English forces during the Third English Civil War, a component of the broader conflict known as the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The Scottish army, under the command of David Leslie, was loyal to King Charles II, while the English were led by Oliver Cromwell, the leader of the Parliamentarian New Model Army. The battle unfolded near the town of Dunbar, in East Lothian, Scotland, and resulted in a resounding victory for Cromwell’s forces, with the Scottish army suffering severe losses and many soldiers being taken prisoner. The defeat significantly weakened the Royalist cause in Scotland and allowed Cromwell to extend his control over the country.
