Battle of Drumclog

The Battle of Drumclog, fought on 1 June 1679, was a significant confrontation during the Covenanter rebellions in Scotland, where religious tensions and resistance against Royal control flared. Taking place near Drumclog in South Lanarkshire, a Covenanter force, driven by their fervent Presbyterian beliefs, clashed with government troops under the command of John Graham of Claverhouse. Despite being a hastily assembled militia, the Covenanters successfully ambushed and defeated the Royal forces, pushing them back. The victory at Drumclog boosted the morale of the Covenanter movement, but it was short-lived as they faced a decisive defeat later that month at the Battle of Bothwell Bridge.
