Battle of Carbisdale

The Battle of Carbisdale, fought on 27 April 1650, was a key engagement during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, pitting the Royalist forces led by James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose, against a Covenanter and English Parliamentarian coalition commanded by Colonel Archibald Strachan. Taking place near Carbisdale in the Scottish Highlands, Montrose, attempting a comeback to restore Charles II to the throne, was ambushed and soundly defeated. The battle saw Montrose's forces routed, with many casualties and captures, including Montrose himself shortly after. He was subsequently handed over to the Covenanter-led Scottish government, tried, and executed in Edinburgh, marking the end of his tumultuous military campaigns.
