Battle of Barra

The Battle of Barra, fought in 1308, was one of the confrontations during the First War of Scottish Independence. Taking place in Aberdeenshire, near Oldmeldrum, Robert the Bruce faced John Comyn, 3rd Earl of Buchan, who was a staunch supporter of the English and a bitter rival of Bruce within Scotland. The battle was part of Bruce's campaign to consolidate his rule and eliminate Scottish opposition to his kingship. Bruce's forces utilized a surprise attack to achieve a decisive victory, decisively defeating Comyn's troops. The Battle of Barra solidified Bruce's control over northern Scotland, further paving the way for his uncontested rule as King of Scots.
